The Cottage

Church Cottages were built as a stable block in the late 18th century and converted into cottages about 50-years later.   The house contains many original features, but has been sympathetically restored to create a stylish seaside home.  The setting is idyllic, within the historic coastal village of Dunwich, a few minutes from the beach, surrounded by historic ruins, forests and heathland; there is much to explore.

The kitchen has a spacious sun-filled kitchen, with a large wooden farmhouse table which becomes the focal point of the house.  The kitchen is fully equipped, with a range cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer and washing machine.  There is a cosy sitting room with a log-burner and a selection of board-games, also FreeSat TV, DVD and Wifi.  The cottage has central heating.

The cottage has a large master bedroom with a balcony that boasts uninterrupted views across the salt marshes to Southwold and its famous lighthouse. There are two upstairs twin rooms, one shares the same view and the other overlooks the back garden and terrace.  The second double bedroom has an ensuite, and is on the groundfloor with views onto the back garden.  There is also a family bathroom upstairs and a shower room downstairs.  We also have two travel cots and high-chairs as well as a selection of plastic crockery, beakers and cutlery for young children.

Outside we have enclosed gardens front and rear, a large terrace and original outbuildings including the privy and smokehouse.  There is ample off-road parking for four cars.  Well behaved dogs are welcome.

Floorplan & Evacuation Routes

The cottage is compliant with fire safety law, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.  The evacuation routes are shown above.  It is important to note that the evacuation route from the downstairs en-suite bedroom is through the window –  this bedroom is therefore not suitable for guests who are unable to climb through the window in the event of a fire in the adjoining lounge.

The cottage was refurbished over 2014/2015.  Click here to take a look.
